“People get seduced by the promise of weight loss by the big commercial diets and spend thousands of dollars on quick-fix solutions which never work for them and only make them fatter,”
Today I found an interesting article that talks about the various pitfalls of fad dieting and it gives some wonderful insight as to why they don’t work. A noteworthy fact is that diets fail because they don’t address the key issue of non-hungry eating. According to the article, out of 76 people studied, “83 per cent said they did no exercise because of health problems, expense or embarrassment. Seventy per cent had tried Weight Watchers (which involves group support), almost half had tried Jenny Craig (pre-packaged meals) and slimming milkshakes, and more than a quarter had experimented with diet pills and starvation.More than half lost weight, making them feel euphoric, but this success was short lived, regaining whatever they lost and more. A third blamed the diets for being unsustainable, unrealistic, too expensive, boring and focusing on food rather than changing behaviour. But most failed dieters blamed themselves, leaving them depressed, angry and even less motivated.”
I hope that if any of you are on the road to finding true, lasting health, you would take the time to develop a healthy attitude towards weight loss. As they say, it’s not the destination but the journey that matters. On your journey, develop good habits and embrace them. Get rid of bad habits that you know are harmful to you. I’ll share a little something that I’ve learned at church. We are told that life transformation happens by the renewing of our mind and this no doubt applies to our physical health. We first have to will to do something and that starts in the mind. Sometime its just taking that 1st step that’ll propel you into a life long change. We here at thisisnotadiet.org encourage and support you to take that 1st step. God be with you!
